The former Saar-Galerie in Saarbrücken is celebrating its topping out ceremony: in the presence of the Lord Mayor, Charlotte Britz, the builders placed the topping out corona on the shell construction in Saarbrücken’s inner city on March 3. The total investment amounts to approx. €170 million. The opening is scheduled for fall 2010. The Europa-Galerie will offer to a sales area of approx. 25,000 m² and will offer space for around 100 shops. Approx. 90% of the retail areas are already leased.
Eurogallerie
Europa-Gallerie in Saarbrücken, Germany is alreay 90% pre-let.
On this occasion, the investor Credit Suisse Asset Management Immobilien Kapitalanlagegesellschaft announced the new name of the shopping gallery: Europa-Galerie Saarbrücken. ECE is commissioned with the complete restructuring and extension of the shopping gallery by integrating the building of the former “Bergwerksdirektion” (Mining Headquarters).

Historic “Bergwerksdirektion” preserved
The historic “Bergwerksdirektion” (Mining Headquarters) is integrated in the Europa-Galerie and will be the bridge to the pedestrian zone of the city center. The landmark elements as well as the facade will be preserved and are opened to the public for the very first time. In future, original art such as the cast-iron flight of stairs, the historic tiles flooring, the ceremonial hall or the precious leaded windows can be inspected by all visitors.

Focus on fashion for premium demands
The focus of the shops located in the Europa-Galerie is placed on fashion. Numerous brand shops, which are not yet present in Saarbrücken – such as Gerry Weber, Anouk, Zero, G-Star, Triumph, Soleil Sucré, Comma, Kriss or More&More – will move into the gallery. Further known brands are Mango, the shoe retailer Leiser, Swarovski, or Starbucks. But also renowned local and regional stores such as TeeStricker, Café Amadeus, the shoe shop Jumex Schuhe, Eyes & More, Café ORO and Café Manin will find their place in the center.

Next to the broad range of clothing, which will make up around half of the stores, approx. 15 per cent are allocated to food stores and supermarkets such as REWE as well as stores for everyday goods. Moreover, there will be several restaurants and cafés which will benefit from the flair of the Mining Headquarters with its spacious indoor and outdoor terraces. “With this shopping center we will give new impetus to and set new trends in the Saarland region,” says Serge Micarelli of ECE, who manages the Europa-Galerie.

The shops will benefit from the first-class location of the Europa-Galerie. More than 1 million people are living in the catchment area. The gallery links the pedestrian zone with the main train station and is excellently accessible by public transportation. Around 1,050 parking spaces are provided to car drivers in the gallery.
